Solverde Season#4 2008 by NSEMOG

Solverde Season#4 - Vilamoura - 5/6 Abril 2008

First of all, I would like to thank all my team mates for all their support during the tournament. Thank you very much all.

During the first tournament hours I tried to play flops with middle/small pocket pairs and suited connectors, but I was not being very successful except for a 66 in the big blind that the turn helped to improve to a three of a kind and with this I could extract some chips from my opponent who held 77. I had as well AQ and AK but I had no action with this two hands.

At the dinner break I had 9100 chips and the average stack was 16000. I really needed to win some chips to get back to the average stack and I moved all in with A10 and later with AK but everybody folded.

I moved to another table where there were some really good players and after four hands I moved all in with my remaining 6500 chip (blinds where 600/1200) with QQ and I got a caller from middle position with K9 that doubled me up. Later in the tournament with 16K in chips (blinds 1500/3000, ante 300) I have 99 on the button and there is a player which is very aggressive that raises to 7K on early position and a short stacked player (with 6,5K) that goes all in. After thinking for a while I decided to move all in as well because I knew my hand was the best and this was the right time to have a comfortable position in the tournament. My two opponents had the same hand, A8, and my 99 survived. Right after this hand I get dealt AA and the player that raised on early position before moves all in, another player reraises to 8400 and I moved all in (37K). The reraiser folds his JJ and I won a nice pot (65K). I stayed quiet for a while without winning any chips. The blinds and antes kept going up and a couple of hands later everybody folds to me in the button, I looked at one of my cards and saw an Ace. This was enough to go all in to steal the blinds, but the big blind holding 99 called me. When I turned up both cards I was so surprised that I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. The other card was an Ace as well and I was able to double up my stack.

After a couple of hands I was moved to the chip leader table. All the short stacks were moving all in at that time, so I wasn’t able to play any hands or try to steal the blinds. My hands were so miserable that I couldn’t risk to double up any of my opponents.

Later on with only 23 players in the tournament, and me short stacked with 40K chips (blinds 2,5K/5K; antes 1K), I called the chip leader big raise (all my stack). Unfortunately my JJ wasn’t strong enough to beat his A8 when an Ace came on the flop and I finished the tournament in 23th.
